St. John’s Church Levens

About

For nearly two hundred years St. John’s has been the Church of England centre of worship of God in the community of Levens. An essential part of everyday village life, families have turned to St. John’s for significant family occasions: christenings, weddings, funerals and the Interment of Ashes. The church is the focal point annually for school services, Easter, Harvest, Remembrance and Christmas.

The Church shares the message of God’s love at regular services led by The Revd. Bryan Kerr and other clergy to which all are welcome (usually at 9,45 am, but check with the parish newsletter [external link] each month). St. John’s is in the Diocese of Carlisle, is part of the Kent Estuary Mission Community and Christians together in Levens.

What we do

  • • Open the Book – weekly in the Primary School

    • Messy Together – monthly in the Church

    • Nature Watch – annually in the Churchyard

    • Levens School curriculum visit for year 2 ‘Understanding Place of Worship’ & an experience event for Levens School

    • Beavers

  • Through the Church there are a variety of opportunities for volunteering, many of which contribute to the whole Levens community.:

    • Tidying and maintaining the churchyard

    • Flower arranging

    • Distributing the newsletter

    • Donations for the food bank

    • Clothing donations to the Salvation Army

    • Recycling

    • Installing special electrics

    • Care for the fabric of the building

    • Taking part in fundraising events

  • Many people help to raise money for St. John’s through a variety of activities – public events, coffee mornings, concerts, apple pressing, garden visits etc. Help is always welcome. See the parish newsletter and notice boards for information.

Donations

Financial support is essential if St. John’s is to continue at the centre of village life.  Annual or monthly giving, and legacies, are always very welcome.

Christians Together in Levens (CTiL)

 

Christians Together in Levens (CTiL) represent the two churches in the village as well as the Roman Catholic Church in Milnthorpe and welcome any Christian denomination to join. They aim to work together to provide a united Christian presence in Levens.

CTiL have a group who meets each Monday morning in the meeting room of the Methodist chapel. All are welcome.
