The Great Big Green Week is a national celebration of community action to tackle climate change and protect nature. We’ve put a programme together here in Levens over the weekend of Friday 23rd to Sunday 25th September 2022
Loads of things going on - just come and join in!
9:30am: Litter Pick. Get your kit from the Lower Hall of the Village Hall, and help keep the village clean and tidy.
10.30am to 4pm: New Clothes from Old: Fashion Lab, at the Village Hall. This is great fun; we’ll have good, clean old clothes (or bring some along), sewing machines, help and advice, everything needed to make your own, new clothes. And then we’ll have a fashion display and show off what we’ve made!
Repair café: Do you need some help in making small repairs to clothes, small electricals, furniture etc? Or have you got skills to help? Come along and tell us. We’d particularly like to help people get their bikes going again!
All day from 10am: Community Gardens in the Playing Fields: We’re starting work on creating this: come along and help! The first task is to prepare the area for planting some apple trees and a wild flower garden - bring a spade!
All day: 10am to 4pm: Climate conversations in the Methodist Church. Tea, coffee, cakes etc. - come and talk about what’s happening, share ideas and learn more. There’ll be quizzes and things to do.
Energy efficiency: Heat loss surveys: Keeping our homes warm and reducing heating bills is now more vital than ever. If you’d like a free basic survey of your house or would like to help us provide these surveys, please come along to talk about it.
Solar Made Easy: CAfS (Cumbria Action for Sustainability) are coming to show us their map of our roofs and help us work out where we could install more solar panels, and advice about how to do it.
Sustainable Cumbria Warmth Grants: Do you qualify for this? We’ve got information about it to help you.
5:30 to 7pm: Talk with our MP about climate change: A discussion with our MP Tim Farron on the impact here - and what can be done.
